Weekend getaway

Back in June of this year, Noon and I took time out for a weekend getaway. We wanted to bring Sam and Rosie along with us so we set about looking for a pet-friendly place. We found Rock Lily Cottages B&B on the Internet and knew at once that was the place! As mentioned on the website, dogs were welcome indoors as long as they followed certain rules such as no jumping on the furniture and no sleeping in the beds provided for guests.

Rock Lily Cottages B&B was located in a town on the south coast of NSW called Brogo. Brogo was in a region famous for its cheesemaking industry, called Bega. The place was just 4 hours' drive away and Noon and I had planned our trip with regular breaks in between for the dogs to get out and stretch their legs.

Sam was obviously excited, he gets that way every time we bring him for car rides. He jumped into the driver's seat before I could get in, the rascal.

We covered the back seat before rounding Sam and Rosie up, then bundled the two of them into the car and set off in the late morning. They played around a little bit for the first hour of the trip, then settled down after our first stop in the town of Nowra.

We made several other stops along the way, each time Sam and Rosie would come wide awake and start bounding around all over the place. But as soon as we got back in the car, they'd go out like a light! Was an uneventful journey all the way to the B&B, the dogs did not get carsick, were well behaved in the car, and slept most of the way.

I'd informed Delphine, the owner of Rock Lily, that we would be bringing our two dogs when I made the reservation. She'd very kindly left out two doggy biscuits for us on our arrival! Noon sat down for a nice cup of tea, while I wandered the grounds around our cottage.

The back of the cottage had a fenced area for keeping the dogs in if we were to go away for a bit without the dogs, but for the most part we didn't use it since we wanted to spend time with Sam and Rosie. The rest of the compound around the cottage was open with no fences. Sam and Rosie had free run of the place and we let them roam to their hearts' content.

Check out the view from the verandah! Awesome isn't it? The dogs were never far from the front door, the didn't wander off into the bush if Noon and I weren't going along with them. And quite often they'd be wanting to come back into the house with us.

The nights were rather cold, since it was winter in Australia after all. But the nice thing was the cottage had its own little fireplace! We got the woodfire going before climbing into bed, and the dogs had their futons setup right by the fire. They were really well behaved considering it was their first time sleeping the whole night indoors.

Part of our accommodation package included a breakfast hamper of bacon, eggs, and a freshly baked loaf of bread. The verandah outside the cottage was an awesome setting for a breakfast, especially with that view. I got up early to fix up the bacon and eggs for Noon, as well as Sam and Rosie's breakfasts.

We stayed two nights at the cottage, were feeling very relaxed by the end of it and didn't want to leave. Stopped by at Bega and some little historical towns along the way back. One of them had a beautiful meadow of green grass.

We're now looking for other dog-friendly holiday accommodation in our region, some place we can drive to and spend time relaxing and enjoying ourselves, and sharing the experience with our two dogs.

The place looks beautiful. My dogs don't listen that well, we have woods behind our house and if we let them out for too long they head dtraight for them, lol
