Wedding, July 10th '04 - Australia

As mentioned previously, Noon and I were married last year. Our first ceremony was a simple affair held here in Australia, more specifically in the city of Wollongong on the south coast of NSW. We decided to have a local ceremony because a large and significant part of our lives belonged here in Australia (it was where we met, after all) and we had many close friends we'd met and grown to love during that time.

Noon and I had picked a spot just by the beach, on a grassy knoll between two tall pine trees. The invitation list was small and we wanted to keep the ceremony very simple. The idea was that we could have an intimate gathering without the need for p.a. systems or formalised seating. The marriage ceremony itself was kept to a maximum of 20 minutes anyway, because we didn't want to keep everyone on their feet for too long :)

Here are some pictures of the wedding bouquet. Noon picked the flowers and the arrangement a month in advance. She chose champagne roses with purple tulips.

Next some pics of the beachside ceremony itself. The weather took a turn for the worse just as we started, but luckily the rain didn't turn too heavy during the time we were outside.

As Best Man, Mitchell had the rings

Iain Stewart gave Noon away at the ceremony. Noon and I have known him and his wife Robyn from the time we met, and they've been like family to us the entire time.

And here we are exchanging vows and rings. Iain was nice enough to hold the umbrella for us when it started to drizzle lightly.

Finally done with the readings and vows, we sat down to sign the register.

Following the ceremony, we adjourned to a reception at a local Thai restaurant called Jasmine Rice. It's a favourite of ours (and quite a few of our guests, I'm told) and it helped that we were friends with the owner and staff of the establishment.

My family had flown in for the ceremony, including my sister.

Pics of Sarah (Noon's Bridesmaid) and Mitchell (my Best Man).

Our wedding cakes. White chocolate mud cake in the middle.

And there you have it! Selected pics and a quick rundown on our wedding in lovely Wollongong. I think Noon and I were happy we kept it small (no more than 30 guests in total), because we had a second ceremony in Thailand for those relatives of ours who couldn't/didn't make the trip over to Australia.

And that second wedding had....... 500 guests!!!

Yep, 500! No, not royalty :)

We were lucky the exchange rate was very much in our favour, but even then it was a bit of a strain. Especially given that we'd just bought our first home a month before! But we managed :)

There'll be a post on that second wedding next, with lotsa pics again!

And I'll tell Noon you liked the flowers.
